[48.01U] Time Series Analysis of Microvariability in Blazars

V. L. Wilkat (Florida Institute of Technology), J. R. Webb (Florida International University), S. D. Clements (Florida Institute of Technology), J. T. Pollock (Appalachian State University)

Microvariability timescales were accurately determined for several Blazars. These timescales were applied to models that invoke shocks in jets and accretion disk flares. The accretion disk coronal loop model indicates that the fast sausage instability gives more plausible magnetic field strengths than the fast kink instability. By assuming colliding relativistic blobs cause shocks, the mass of the central black hole for each object was determined. Future work will entail additional microvariability observations and further exploration of plasma processes. This work was supported by NSF grant AST-0097616.
