[43.02] The Supernova program of the Canada-France-Hawaii-Telescope Legacy Survey

R. Pain (LPNHE), SNLS Collaboration

The CFHT Legacy Survey (CFHTLS) is a large-scale multi-component program intended to operate for 5 years beginning February 2003. The CFHTLS will consist of 3 surveys: a very wide shallow survey, a wide synoptic survey and a deep synoptic survey. Covering 4 square degrees in four MegaCam fields through the whole filter set (u*g'r'i'z'), the deep synoptic survey will be sequenced at an average rate of ~5 nights a dark run for 5 runs in a row each year on each field. It will make it possible to observe each 1 square degree field every 2-3 nights in 4 colors for 5 months and aims primarily at detecting and monitoring as many as 2000 SNe up to redshift z~1. This unprecedent supernova data set will permit to obtain a precise measurement of the cosmic star formation rate as well as of the cosmological parameters including a measurement of the equation of state of Dark Energy.
