The roughly 1 MeV minimum energy required to creat a single electron/postron pair presents something of a challenge in creating conduction particles in a vacuum setting. In recent years, this problem has been avoided, as we will discuss. Nevertheless, some attention is needed in applying thus solutions to several problems of astrophysical interest.
