[106.03] Initial Results of the Palomar DEEP2 Infrared Survey

We present initial results from a wide-field (~ 2 deg2) deep (K = 21, 5 sigma) K-band imaging survey of the DEEP2 DEIMOS spectroscopic fields. The broad goals of the Palomar DEEP2 Infrared Survey are to understand in detail the stellar masses of galaxies, and specific properties of evolved massive galaxies, at z ~ 1. We have thus far observed approximately 5,000 galaxies with spectroscopy at z ~ 0.8-1.5, from which we present preliminary results. Combining this infrared imaging with optical imaging from CFHT and redshifts from the DEIMOS spectrographs allows us to measure an unprecedented number of stellar masses at z ~ 1, as well as characterize the redshift distributions of the extremely red object population. We discuss these initial results and describe future plans for the survey.
