[59.08] Un Puente A Los Cielos -- A Bridge To The Skies

K. K. Dyer (NRAO, NSF Postdoctoral Fellow), R. J. Harrison, A. C. Poindexter (NRAO)

Un Puente A Los Cielos is an outreach project targeted at Socorro High School students and Spanish-speaking population of the Americas. The project took place over the summer of 2003 during which six Socorro High School students and their supervisor spent the summer exploring the astronomical community at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and across New Mexico while translating web pages on astronomy for the general public into Spanish. We describe the project and highlight both the successes and unexpected complications and discuss methods of evaluating the impact of the project on the high school students and on the Spanish-speaking community. Un Puente A Los Cielos is funded through NASA IDEAS grant HST-ED-90245.01-A. KKD is supported by an NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowship under award AST-0103879.
