[14.21] Photometry of the Open Cluster M18 (NGC 6613)

J. Connelly (Dickinson College), C.D. Garmany (Columbia U. Biosphere 2), J.W. Glaspey (NOAO)

The open cluster M18, a rather sparse assemblage in the constellation Satittarius, has not been examined since a photographic study by Lindoff in 1971. As part of a recent larger photometric survey with the CWRU Burrell Schmidt at KPNO, 5-color CCD photometry covering the region of the cluster was available, and a reexamination of the reddening, distance and possible membership seemed in order. We present new UBVRI photometry of the entire region from which we have rederived the reddening and distance for the cluster. In addition, we present spectra for a few of the stars, taken with the KPNO 2.1 Goldcam.

J. Connelly acknowledges NSF support from the NOAO summer REU program.
