[106.06] DEEP2: The Stellar Mass Function at z~1

K. Bundy, C. Conselice, R. Ellis (CalTech), P. Eisenhardt (JPL), DEEP2 Team

We use wide-field K-band (K = 20.5) imaging of more than 5,000 galaxies in the DEEP2 redshift survey to construct the stellar mass function in six redshift intervals ranging from z=0.5 to z=1.5. Photometry at 8 microns from the Infrared Array Camera on SIRTF will also be utilized for nearly 1,000 galaxies in this sample. Template SEDs from spectral synthesis models are fit to the optical-IR colors of each galaxy in the sample, constraining the K-band stellar mass-to-light ratio and allowing an estimate of stellar mass accurate within a factor of two. We apply a Vmax weighting scheme and correct for photometric and redshift incompleteness. Our results suggest only a moderate evolution in the stellar mass function between z ~1 and the present day.
