We present early results of a photometric survey of the open star cluster, NGC 1647. This is not an extensively studied cluster in any photometric system and prior to this, has never been observed in the u'g'r'i'z' system. Data for this cluster were obtained with the United States Naval Observatory (USNO) 1.0 m telescope which was the instrument used to develop the u'g'r'i'z' photometric standard system.

Using these data, we verify the distance and age as determined by prior investigations, and find a new value for the metallicity of the cluster. We also began a search for variable stars in this cluster.
