[19.13] A New Telescope Control System for The SRT Radio Telescope

K. M. Ivarsen, R. L. Mutel (University of Iowa)

We describe a new software control system for the Small Radio Telescope (SRT) developed at Haystack Observatory. The software interface allows anyone to remotely operate the telescope over the Internet using a Linux or Windows-based computer. The interface is highly graphical and intuitive, with independent windows for telescope and spectrometer control, as well as a webcam telescope display. The software architecture incorporates the Python programming language with the wxWindows GUI toolkit.

We will allow limited use of the SRT telescope by remote users at educational institutions over the Internet. There will be a real-time demonstration of the telescope control software at the poster session.
