[89.02] Lighting 101

D.L. Crawford (International Dark-Sky Association)

This presentation will review the major elements of outdoor lighting designs, including the reasons for such lighting, and what can be done to insure that any adverse impacts are minimized. Such a basic knowledge is necessary for anyone interested in protecting dark skies for astronomy. While outdoor lighting is a very complicated subject, some of the issues can be understood, as well as the necessary terminology.
