[49.01] X-ray binaries in nearby galaxies: The link between binary populations and galactic properties.

Chandra has revolutionized the study of X-ray binaries in other galaxies in two ways: (a) by allowing the detection of large populations in a range of environments and (b) by prompting several theoretical studies. In this talk I will present an overview of recent Chandra observations of nearby spiral and star-forming galaxies, focusing on the characteristics of the X-ray source populations (source types, X-ray luminosity functions) and their dependence on the properties of their host galaxies.
