[67.08] Numerical Simulations of Heliospheric Disturbances Driven by Various Coronal Models

D. Odstrcil (University of Colorado CIRES-NOAA/SEC)

Improved understanding of the propagation of large-scale solar wind disturbances is needed to support space weather research and forecasting. Essential to this effort are computational models capable of simulating the propagation, evolution, and interaction of transient disturbances on their way to Earth. We will present our recent progress in this area, with attention given to: 1) incorporation of empirically-based models of ambient solar wind and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and (2) to merging of coronal and heliospheric numerical magnetohydrodynamic models. Coupled modeling enables us to simulate propagation and interaction of CMEs and shocks in a non-homogeneous solar wind more realistically.
