[5.09] SARA Observations of Interacting Binaries: ST Trianguli, GSC 2336 281, GSC 1343 2414, and V1128 Tauri

We present observations and periodicity analyses of four interacting binaries taken at the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy (SARA) Observatory.

The observations were taken on the evenings of 20 - 27 December 2003, by RGS, DRF, and NCH with the SARA 0.9-m reflector and AP7 CCD at Kitt Peak. Standard UBVRcIc filters were used. A brief report is given below.

ST Tri [GSC 2336 0305, \alpha(2000) = 02h 41m 32.8s, \delta(2000) = 35\arcdeg 43' 31"]is a near-contact binary discovered by Kurochkin (1973PZP). The former observational record is scant. We took from 130 to 190 observations in each of BVRI, and 50 in U. The eclipse amplitudes were 0.8 and 0.2 mags (V),for the primary and the secondary eclipses, respectively. The curves appear fairly symmetrical.

GSC 2336 281 [\alpha(2000) = 02h 41m 41.0s, \delta(2000) = +35\arcdeg 42' 55"] is a W UMa binary with nearly the same eclipse depths (0.5 in V). The curves appear fairly symmetrical. We took from 130 to 190 observations in each of BVRI, and 50 in U.

GSC 1343 2414 [\alpha(2000) = 06h 50m 55.8s, \delta(2000) = +22\arcdeg 29' 21"] is a near-contact binary newly discovered by Gomez-Forrellad, et al. (IBVS 5277, 2002). We took approximately 120 observations in each of UBRI, and over 250 in V.

V1128 Tau [HIP 17878, GSC 664 694, \alpha(2000) 03h 49m 27.8s, \delta(2000) = +12\arcdeg 54' 44"] was observed by HIPPARCOS. The tables give a B-V of 0.68, (G0 V). The curves are of W UMa type with unequal eclipse depths, and a slight O'Connell effect. We took between 70 and 100 observations in each of the UBVRI pass bands.
