[4.07] Multi-Wavelength Observations of Mrk 421

M. K. Blazejowski (Purdue), VERITAS Collaboration, Large Multiwavelength Team

We report detailed observations of Mrk 421 in 2003 and 2004. This nearby High Energy Peaked BL Lac object was simultaneously monitored in gamma-rays by 10 m Whipple telescope, and in X-rays by RXTE. Nearly simultaneous coverage was also provided in B, V, R, I bands, as well as in the following radio bands: 4.8, 8.0, 14.5, 22 and 37 GHz. Such amount of high quality simultaneous data has allowed us to examine the behavior of the source either in the flare or the quiet state.

This data has enabled us to:

-- track the evolution of the Spectral Energy Distribiution (SED) in the quiet as well as in the flare state;

-- present the information on the correlation between the flares caught in different energy bands;

-- examine the behavior of the spectral index in the X-ray band in the transitions between quiet and the flare states, and eventually,

-- shed the light on the variability timescales of the source.

In this contribution, we summarize the results of the campaign and discuss their implications for emission models.
