[42.07] The local UV luminosity function: dependence on galaxy density

M. Treyer, T. K. Wyder (Caltech), GALEX Science Team

Numerical simulations predict that large-scale environment may play a key role in regulating star-formation and affect the shape of the galaxy luminosity function. These predictions can be tested by estimating the galaxy luminosity function in regions of different galaxy number densities or luminosity densities. We present preliminary results on the environmental dependence of the local UV luminosity using 500 sqdeg of GALEX/2dF overlap.
