[145.06] Cosmological Simulations of Metallicity Enrichment in the Intergalactic Medium

B. D. Oppenheimer, R. Davé (Steward Observatory, University of Arizona), V. Springel (Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik, Garching bei München, Germany), L. Hernquist (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)

We explore the metallicity enrichment in the intergalactic medium (IGM) using Springel & Hernquist's (2003) cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. Model quasar absorption line spectra are generated for different metallicity models including the Springel & Hernquist wind model which includes the ejection of metals into the IGM by star-forming galaxies. We concentrate on metallicity enrichment patterns around galaxies. Preliminary results show winds in hydrodynamical simulations reproduce some of the observed properties of metals in the IGM, and point to the need for more simulations and observations.
