[57.02] D/H and D/O in the Galactic disk towards the CSPN LSS 1362

J.W. Kruk, C. Oliveira (JHU), G. Hebrard (IAP), K. Werner, E. Reiff (Tuebingen)

We present results from an analysis of interstellar absorption along the line of sight to the CSPN LSS 1362. This line of sight probes the Galactic disk (l=273, b=+6) over a distance of ~1 kpc. Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectra spanning 912Å- 1187Åprovide information on the column densities of DI, OI, NI, Ar I, FeII, CI, and H2. The hydrogen column density has been determined from high-resolution IUE data to be log NH = 20.70 +/- 0.11; other FUSE measurements of D/H at similar or higher HI column densities have been extremely low, typically half of the Local Bubble value of 15 ppm. Archival STIS spectra will be used to refine the determination of N(HI).

Financial support to U.S. participants has been provided by NASA contract NAS5-32985.
