[19.19] Evidence for an Overflow Stream in the Quiescent EX Hydrae

The intermediate polar, EX Hydrae, was the object of a large simultaneous multiwavelength observational campaign during 2000 May -- June. Here we present the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer photometry and optical photometry and spectroscopy from ground-based observatories obtained as part of this campaign. Modulation on the beat frequency, \omega-\Omega, is seen to be present in the X-ray and optical photometry. The appearance of this frequency is typically associated with an accretion disk overflow stream that impacts with the white dwarf magnetosphere. Other evidence for an overflow stream is seen in the optical photometry as an extended egress shoulder on the binary eclipse and in optical emission line tomograms, which show enhanced emission extending from the hot spot on the edge of the disk inward. These features have previously only been observed in EX Hya during outburst.
