[28.08] X-ray Observations of Novae and Interstellar Matter

J. Krautter (Landessternwarte Heidelberg)

During their hydrostatic hydrogen burning phase novae are strong X-ray emitters with a super-soft spectrum. X-ray halos around the pointlike-novae source caused by interstellar dust grains allow to determine properties of the interstellar dust. X-ray radiation also allows to probe the properties of circumstellar dust which forms in part of the novae in the expanding envelope. Recent results will be discussed.
