We use the SDSS and 2MASS photometry for 3.6 million point sources to analyze their distribution in 7-dimensional color space, spanning the 0.3-2.2 micron wavelength range. We quantify the median stellar locus as a function of the SDSS g-i color and, with the aid of line measurements from 10,000 SDSS spectra, project this locus onto the MK spectral type sequence. For each source we compute the distance to the median stellar locus in the 7-dimensional color space (with accounting for photometric errors and the intrinsic locus width), and show how it can be used to select point sources with unusual optical/near-IR colors. In particular, we discuss the joint SDSS-2MASS color selection of high-z QSOs, RR Lyrae stars, carbon stars, high-metallicity giants. The catalog, including the color distances to the median stellar locus and best-fit MK spectral type, will be made publicly available.
