[4.13] Small Main-Belt Asteroid Lightcurves

K. J. Walsh, D.C. Richardson (University of Maryland)

We present preliminary results from a survey of small Main Belt asteroids. The targets of these observations all had H > 16, and were observed from the KPNO 2.1 m telescope. We have observed a total of 16 objects so far, constraining amplitudes for all, and periods for half. We present the results of these observations, and compare them to previously known distributions of lightcurve amplitudes and periods for small MBAs. These observations are motivated by a need to compare the spin and shape properties of the many well-observed near-Earth asteroids with a set of similarly sized MBAs. This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. AST0307549.
