[76.01] Strategies and Facilities for Maximizing the Public Observatory Visitor Experience

C.J. Anderson (College of Southern Idaho)

The College of Southern Idaho’s Centennial Observatory opened in May of 2004. While appropriately instrumented for astronomical research, the facility’s primary goal is to serve as a public visual observatory for educational outreach. We describe some of the unique features and strategies employed to achieve the goal of a highly-accessible, user-friendly public astronomical observatory, as well as a preliminary assessment of the success of our approach to date.

The Centennial Observatory is funded by the College of Southern Idaho.
