[63.37] Breaking the Age-Dust-Metallicity Degeneracy via Spitzer IRAC Colors and Semi-Analytic Models

R. Idzi (Johns Hopkins University), H. Ferguson (Space Telescope Science Institute), R. Somerville (Max-Planck-Institut fur Astronomie)

Using the Spitzer IRAC colors of GOODS Lyman break galaxies together with simple and complex models, we attempt to isolate the photometric information that effectively breaks the age-dust-metallicity degeneracy. We use simple stellar population models along with a semi-analytic hierarchical model to construct diagnostics capable of achieving the desired degeneracy decomposition. We analyze several potential diagnostics (e.g. color-color diagrams) and assess their validity. We compare the semi-analytic model predictions to both the simple-stellar-population models as well as the GOODS data. We discuss the procedures used in our analysis and we outline the potential use of our diagnostic tools.
