[52.06] Star Formation History in the Extended Groth Strip - Constraints from GALEX (UV) and Optical Photometry

S. Salim (UCLA), S. Charlot (Institut d'Astrophysique du CNRS), R. M. Rich (UCLA), D. Schiminovich (Columbia U.), GALEX Team, DEEP2 Team

Extended Groth Strip (EGS) extends over 120'x16' for which the DEEP2 obtained optical spectra of a majority of galaxies to R=24, extending to z~1.5. EGS collaboration adds to this effort with observations in other wavelengths, from radio to X-ray. In a very deep exposure (120 ksec), Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) has imaged most of the EGS in two UV bands, and detects 60% of galaxies with optical spectra. GALEX UV fluxes provide a star formation measurement for practically the entire redshift range. Dust-corrected star formation rates, as well as other parameters such as stellar masses and stellar metallicities are derived by comparing the observed broad-band SED to SEDs of model galaxies exhibiting a wide range of galaxy properties and star formation histories. As a preliminary result, we see evidence for the systematic change in the specific (per mass) star-formation rate, consistent with the picture of down-sizing.
