[81.26] A SO Survey Toward Massive Star Forming Regions

M. A. Mateen, E. D. Araya (New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology), P. Hofner (New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology & National Radio Astronomy Observatory)

In this paper we present preliminary results of a survey of the SO NJ = 10 - 01 transition at 30 GHz (1 cm band) conducted with the MPIfR 100 m Radio Telescope toward 48 Ultra Compact (UC) HII regions. Seven of the 48 UC HII regions were also observed with the IRAM 30 m Radio Telescope in the SO NJ = 43 - 32 transition at 138 GHz (2 mm band). The survey aims at establishing the SO NJ = 10 - 01 transition as a probe for physical and chemical conditions in star forming regions. We also investigate how well the SO 10 - 01 transition traces outflows or infall, as well as possible chemical abundance variations.

This research is partly supported by NSF grant AST-0454665.
