[54.04] Astronomy Picture of the Day in the Classroom

J. T. Bonnell (NASA/GSFC/USRA), R. J. Nemiroff (Michigan Tech)

Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) at main address http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html is being used as a tool for teaching astronomy in classrooms from grade school to college. Updated daily since 1995 June, APOD continues to maintain the largest annotated archive of diverse astronomy images on the internet. Mirror sites around the world translate APOD daily into Chinese, Czech, French, and Russian. APOD images may be used to illustrate astronomy lectures and present topical astronomy information. Techniques for incorporating APOD material into the average classroom are discussed.
