[54.03] The Creation of a Graduate Student Public Outreach Program

D. L. Ratay, D. B. Dahari (University of Florida)

In the past two years graduate students at the University of Florida have been constructing a public outreach program. This program involves visits to local school and museum classes as well as large presentations for families. We have developed a series of interactive lectures for this program. We present the materials that we have created in this outreach project so that graduate students at other universities can create similar programs.

Graduate Students can prove to be an excellent resource for public outreach in the sciences. Public outreach programs enable graduate students the opportunity to gain classroom experience and share ideas with professional educators. Graduate students offer K-12 students specialty teaching from young professionals in the field.
