[6.02] Comparing Large Aperture Fluxes to 2MASS XSC Fluxes

L.R. Levenson, E.L. Wright (UCLA Dept. of Physics and Astronomy)

In order to determine the amount of flux from galaxies in the 2MASS survey which extends beyond the apertures used to determine magnitudes in the 2MASS Extended Source Catalog, we have stacked Atlas images of 70 galaxies obtained from the 2MASS Batch Image Server. From this we obtain an estimate of the average flux versus aperture radius for the galaxies in the 2MASS Survey. We show a comparison to the averages over these 70 galaxies of several radii and semi-major axes used to determine magnitudes in the 2MASS Extended Source Catalog. These include radii and semi-major axes for the circular and elliptical Kron magnitudes, \muJ = 20 and \muJ = 21 mag/arcsec2 isophotal magnitudes and radii for the extrapolated magnitudes. We also show the average of the fluxes for these 70 galaxies, determined with each of the above methods, for comparison with the flux of the average.

This research has made use of the NASA/ IPAC Infrared Science Archive, which is operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
