[56.01] Mapping the Kinematics of the Narrow-Line Regions in NGC 4151 and NGC 1068

V. Das, D.M. Crenshaw (GSU)

We present a detailed analysis of HST/STIS long-slit spectra of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 4151 and NGC 1068. The spectra were taken at high spatial (0.1 arcsec) and spectral (R = 10,000) resolutions through multiple slit locations along the narrow-line regions (NLRs) in these Seyferts. We compare the measured radial velocities and dispersions with biconical outflow models that we developed to explain previous HST observations obtained at low dispersions. The high-dispersion spectra permit detection of low-luminosity emission-line clouds previously undetected in the low-dispersion data. Our analysis of the high-dispersion spectra of NGC 4151 shows a population of faint clouds that are apparently moving in the opposite direction to the general outflow, which suggests "backflow" towards the nucleus. We present the results of a similar attempt to detect unusual flow patterns in the low-luminosity clouds of NGC 1068.
