[94.04] Wide Angle H-alpha Survey for PMS Objects

As is so often the case in astronomy, more data are needed to improve the understanding of an astronomical phenomenon. In the case of stellar birth, this is seen in the need for more PMS objects to be identified and catalogued to increase the pool of data. The construction of a wide-angle survey facility at the Brigham Young University West Mountain Observatory will provide this much needed data. Specifically, a H\alpha wide/narrow index system is being developed to locate and catalogue H\alpha emitters. This facility will allow for a survey of young open clusters along the galactic plane. The H\alpha emitters will be identified through examination of the H\alpha index. These H\alpha emitters can then be studied spectroscopically using other telescopes available at WMO to classify them as PMS objects, thereby greatly increasing the number of data from which to draw conclusions about this phase of stellar evolution. Specific details on the construction of the facility and development of the H\alpha index, as well as preliminary results, will be presented.
