[126.01] The Antennae in the Merging Sequence

J. E. Hibbard (NRAO)

The Antennae is the nearest example of a major merger, and the first system in the famous Toomre Sequence of on-going mergers. I review the properties of the cold molecular and atomic gas, and use numerical models, constrained by HI kinematic data, to place The Antennae in the context of the merging scenario.
