SPD Hike, NCAR to Woods Quarry

Special Event, Sunday, May 30, 2004, noon, Busses provided

Join the Solar Physics Division for a picnic lunch and hike from the scenic National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Mesa Laboratory in Boulder, Sunday May 30. We will start with a picnic (pack-lunch provided) outside the striking futuristic structure of the Mesa Lab at noon. An optional public tour of the building starts at noon for those interested. The 4-mile roundtrip moderate but leisurely hike will start at the Mesa Lab (elevation 6200 feet) and proceed up to Woods Quarry, with an elevation gain of about 600 feet. Nice views of the Boulder Foothills at the start, ending with a scenic outlook of Boulder relaxing in the unique sandstone chairs at Woods Quarry. Bring sun/wind/rain protection, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and plenty of water for the hike. We will provide bus transportation from Denver. There will be a $40 per person charge for lunch and transportation. Contact Doug Braun (dbraun@cora.nwra.com) if you are interested in attending.
