Using existing results, particularly from the HELLAS survey, we predict source counts in the hard X-ray EXIST all sky survey. It is important to make separate predictions for Compton-thick and Compton-thin and unabsorbed AGNs as their optical counterparts have quite different properties. We predict the redshift distributions and optical/near-IR magnitudes for the three types of AGNs that will be seen by EXIST. Strategies for identifying these classes of objects are derived and used to impose angular positioning constraints on the EXIST payload.
