[51.06] Optical Spectra of Type Ia, Ib/c Supernovae

We present a selection of very well time-sampled optical spectra of type Ia, Ib, and Ic supernovae (SNe) from the CfA database, taken with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope. The spectra begin as early as 14 days before maximum light and go to late times, when the supernovae enter the nebular phase (several months after maximum). The temporal evolution of the photospheric ejecta velocities as measured from numerous lines (e.g., Ca H&K, Fe II, Si II, various lines of He I) are presented and compared amongst the classes of SNe and their properties. Other line diagnostics are discussed for the specific type of supernovae; these include a temporal sequence of He I fractional line depth for SNe Ib.
