We report observations of infrared vibrational emission and absorption by C2H2, HCN, and SiO in the Orion Kleinmann-Low nebula. The observations were made with TEXES, a high-resolution mid-infrared spectrograph on the NASA IRTF. The resolution was 1.4 arcsec and 4 km/s. C2H2 and HCN were seen in absorption over most of KL with a spatial and Doppler pattern indicating that they are in clumpy gas in the 18 km/s outflow. C2H2 was also seen in emission, or resonant scattering, around the periphery of KL. It probably traces ambient gas illuminated by KL. SiO was seen in emission toward IRc2. We suggest that it lies inside the KL cavity. The observations allow us to make an improved three-dimensional model of the motions and distribution of the molecular gas in the core of the Orion Molecular Cloud.
In 2006 TEXES will be be moved to Gemini North where we hope to observe the structure in KL with <0.5 arcsec resolution. TEXES will be available to the Gemini community in semester 2006B. This work was supported by NSF grant AST-0205518.
